A purpose of a sensory room is to help individuals develop and engage their senses. Lights, colours, sounds, sensory objects and aromas can all be used to allow a person to explore and interact without risk.
Sensory rooms can help with confidence building.
The sensory room allows an individual to explore at their own leisure whilst allowing support staff to see what calms them, rouses them and their likes and dislikes.
The main benefits of a sensory room are Sensory stimulation, improved balance, movement and spatial orientation and providing calm and comfort for overactive and distressed individuals.
A sensory room also allows for a client centred approach focussing on the individual rather than judging them on characteristics of their condition.
Our sensory room has been designed to meet multi-sensory needs. It is not in the main hub allowing for complete relaxation. It has two sections, one for calm and relaxation and one for stimulation of the senses and sensory motor activities.
